Alex doesn’t believe in ghosts, but he is about to have his beliefs challenged.

When Jimmy Devlin asks Alex and Donna to investigate the strange things that have been happening at his home, The Priory, Alex seizes the opportunity to prove to his sister that there is no such thing as ghosts. But as the twins start to investigate unexplained noises and ghostly figures, it becomes clear that unquiet spirits are not the only problem facing the Devlin family.

Are the family servants hiding secrets? Has a valuable antique ring been stolen, or just mislaid? And what has happened to Jimmy’s missing elder brother, Harry? As the twins and Jimmy try to solve the many mysteries of The Priory, they discover they are dealing with a very dangerous enemy

Leigh-on-Sea, where I live, and its larger neighbour, Southend-on-Sea, is home to a large and lively community ot artists and writers

In March every year, when the Essex Book Festival comes round, lots of us get together on Southend Area Local Authors Day, affectionately known as SALAD. This year, SALAD will be taking place over two days, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 March. The whole event is free and visitors will get the chance to browse many different genres of books, chat to authors and listen to talks. I’ll be there with copies of the updated version of The Multiple Sclerosis Diet Book and my children’s novel Eye Spy. Do come along if you are in the area.

Venue: The Forum, Elmer Square, Southend-ion-Sea, Essex. There is a café and a nearby car park. Time:  Saturday 18 March  10.00am to 4,00pm.    Sunday 19 March  11.00am to 4.00 pm

Sardine Pasta Sauce

If you found The Multiple Sclerosis Diet Book useful, you might like to know that an updated and revised edition will be published on 17 February 2017.

Since the book was first published in 2007, doctors with MS such as George Jelinek in Australia and Terry Wahls in the USA, have started to advocate diet as a treatment for MS. Although they each suggest a slightly different diet, both have found nutritional medicine more effective in their own case than the currently available drugs. The updated edition includes both George Jelinek’s Overcoming MS diet, and the Wahls Protocol, as well as current research on the benefits of vitamin D and the effects of substances such as salt and sugar on people with MS. There are also lots of new, easy to cook, recipes.

To whet your appetite, here’s one of my favourite recipes which is suitable for a healthy eating diet, the low-fat diet, the Best Bet diet and the Overcoming MS diet.

Sardine Pasta Sauce  (Serves 1)

1 dstsp olive oil

1 stick celery, sliced, or ½ a small leek, sliced

1 clove garlic, crushed

½ red pepper, deseeded and sliced

½ small courgette, sliced

200ml. (7 fl.oz.) passata

1 tin sardines, drained and chopped

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp dried parsley

Soften celery or leek,  garlic, pepper and courgettes in oil in a covered pan over a low heat for about 10 minutes. Add  passata, sardines and herbs and spices. Mix well and heat through. Season with salt and serve with your pasta of choice.

Wishing Shelf Book Awards!

Eye Spy has just been awarded a Red Ribbon in the Wishing Shelf Book Awards! Books in this competition are read in schools throughout the UK. Here are two typical comments from readers:

‘Sort of like Harry Potter with lots of sub-plots.’   Girl, aged 12

‘Exciting and fun.’ Boy, aged 10¨

The final verdict from the readers was, ‘A fast-paced, exciting, whodunit’.

And for those of you who enjoyed Eye Spy, the good news is that Eye Spy 2 – Paranormal Activity is now complete, and is in the process of being edited. If everything goes according to plan, it will be available as a paperback and ebook next Spring. In the new book, Alex and Donna are reunited with an old friend, and investigate some spooky goings on in an old priory.
